Experiment!
Polymers are long chains of molecules that can stretch and bend and we love getting to experiment with them. All sorts of things are made out of polymers, including plastic bags.
In this experiment, we’re going to poke holes in a plastic bag filled with water… without it leaking!

Materials

Zip-top plastic bag

Sharp pencils
-
Water
Procedure

First, fill the zip-top plastic bag about halfway with water. Then, seal it up tightly.

Now, take a sharp pencil and slowly push it through one side of the bag and out the other.

Now, take another pencil and push it through the bag again, close to the first pencil. Keep doing this until you have several pencils sticking out of the bag.

Now, here comes the messy part! Grab hold of the bag and give it a gentle squeeze.
This experiment is great for beginner Explorers,
involves sharp pencils, can be messy during step 4,
and uses household items.
