Tornado in a Jar!

With this experiment, you can create a force of nature in a jar in order to have a look at the effects of centrifugal force!

Tornado in a Jar Experiment!

Materials

  • Jar with Lid

  • Water

  • Dish Soap

Procedure

  1. Fill the jar with water and 1 tablespoon (or a couple squirts) or dish soap.
     

  2. Shake the jar to create bubbles, then let it settle for a minute so they all float out the top of the water.
     

  3. With one hand on top and the other hand on the bottom, move the jar in a circular motion to get all of the liquid spinning.
     

  4. Watch the vortex spin and repeat or change the experiment!

This experiment is great for beginners and can be done with household ingredients.
