Making a Star Projector!

Materials
-
Cardboard or plastic cup
-
Pin or pencil
-
Flashlight or phone light
-
Your favourite Constellation
Procedure
-
Use your pen, pencil, or marker to draw your constellation on the cardboard. Select several points to represent your constellation. It’s like joining dots to create a picture, but in reverse.
-
Use your writing utensil or scissors to poke holes in the cardboard at these dots, creating the stars of your chosen constellation.
-
Dim the lights and shine a flashlight through the holes. You’ll see your constellation projected on the walls or ceiling!
-
Experiment with moving the flashlight closer or farther away to see how the stars spread out. Just like in the real sky, constellations appear differently depending on your perspective.
This experiment is great for Beginning Explorers
and can be completed using household supplies.
